I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If water is leaking, turn off the water at the nearest access point or at the mains valve outside. If you can’t find the water main shutoff valve or a tap to the fixture, then turn on all the cold faucets inside and out to help depressurise the household pipework and minimise the leak.

Once that’s done, give us a call, whatever the day or time is. We’ll be with you rapidly to fix the leak.

While you wait for our emergency plumber to arrive, remove any important things, mop up any water, and put a bucket to catch drips. You should also switch off the hot water heating if the main water is turned off.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
